Exhibition

Maitland Libraries are launching a new exhibition: Collecting Maitland’s 19th Century Past, to celebrate History Week 2022 and the theme of Hands-on History.

It presents seven compelling collection items, from the etching of lost wetlands to an indenture contract that bound an eight-year-old orphan to servitude. This exhibition shows how the practice of curating and sharing collections, and getting hands on with history, shapes the way we understand and commemorate Maitland’s history.

Related public talk: Tuesday 6th September (10:30–11:00 am), Maitland Libraries Community Heritage Curator, Warwick Heywood, will give a 30min talk on the exhibition Curating Maitland’s 19th Century Past (see separate event listing).
