Poulton Park: Take a Walk on the Wild Side with the Oatley Flora and Fauna Society
Poulton Park has a very interesting history with sites showing that aboriginal people used the area particularly for seafood. After colonisation, the area was used for rural industries such as a piggery and dairy. There was a major sandstone quarry with extensive stone works and in the 1950’s Sydney Water built the southern ocean outfall sewer main through the park. Finally, in the 1970’s Kogarah Council decided to dredge Oatley Bay and pump the spoil up and cover the wetlands to create sporting fields. A walk through the area will show some of these sites and other interesting aspects of this little known park.
