In person exhibition and competition
The History Week theme for 2023, Voices from the Past, is an opportunity to engage with the histories of those who were often voiceless in the past such as women, migrants, workers, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Sometimes these voices were once heard but now sit forgotten in archives. At other times they have been ignored or all but erased.
To celebrate these voices Singleton Public Library is hosting a photo competition, with entries to be hung in the library foyer from History Week until the end of September.
Whether you have dozens of old family albums handed down to you, or just a small amount of photographs, we are encouraging readers to take another look at their collection and share some of their favourite gems.
Entrants under the age of 18 need their parent or guardian’s permission to enter.
Step 1 - Dig out an old photograph which gives voice to someone from the past. For example, could be a great-great grandparent, parent, family friend, or local identity.
Step 2 - Tell us as much as you can about the photograph. Where and when it was taken? Who took it and who is in it? What is the story behind it?
Step 3 – Read the terms and conditions (found online or at the library)
Step 4 - Submit your entry in person or online via the online form.
