In person talk
Later this year, Australians will be asked to vote in a referendum on establishing an Aboriginal voice to the federal Parliament. Many would not realise that similar calls for an elected body of Aboriginal people empowered to take their views to government were made almost a century ago. In this History Week event, Emeritus Professor and Worimi man John Maynard will tell the story of the Australian Aboriginal Progressive Association and its campaign for Aboriginal self-determination in the 1920s, including the leading role played by his own grandfather, Fred Maynard.
