Exhibition - The Promenade, Balmoral: picture perfect
This digital exhibition looks at the changes in the landscape and the impact the Promenade and recreational buildings had on the evolution of Balmoral as it is known today.
Sydney's finest beach changed forever on 29 May 1922 when a tram left Spit Junction bound for a new destination, ‘Balmoral'. A few weeks later the beach attracted a huge crowd on the King's holiday with the ' Evening News' reporting 'a new Balmoral came into existence yesterday.'
Mosman Council responded by implementing a policy of land resumption to create The Promenade. With the beach on one side and Moreton Bay figs on the other it was picture perfect, a popular place for a Sunday afternoon promenade.
